HEAD COACH, DIANE WATSON

Coach Watson was a transplant from Southern California. She was born and raised in Orange County. After a successful career at Westminister High School, she was recruited by University of Texas at Austin and played under Coach Mick Haley. Coach Watson was an outstanding outside hitter and set numerous records. By the time she finished her career in 1986, Coach Watson was UT's all-time leader in kills (1,408), attacks (3,431) and digs (1,253) and twice All- American.  She was also the first Longhorn ever to earn All-Conference honors in three straight seasons.

Coach Watson began her coaching career in 1989 at Hays High School, where she immediately took the Lady Rebels to the playoffs. The following year, Coach Watson became the recruiting coordinator for Southwest Texas State University. Returning to the college ranks Coach Watson quickly rolled her sleeves up and began recruiting some of the top athletes from around the country. It paid off in 1991, her second season with the Bobcats, when they  won their first Southland Conference Championship.

After 7 years with SWT, Coach Watson returned to high school taking over the Lady Dragons of Round Rock. During the 2003 season, the Lady Dragons amassed a 25-8 overall record, and was 12-2 in district finishing 2nd place. The Lady Dragons ended their season with an outstanding performance as one of the top 16 teams in the state of Texas as a 2003 Regional Semi-Finalist. Coach Watson is beginning her eighth season in which she has compiled a seven-year winning percentage of .698 (156-47). The Dragons have been to the play-offs 19 straight years and Coach Watson is determined to continue that tradition under her leadership.
